Run for the World 2008 - Cyprus
Run
We ran on the 19th of April, on a Saturday afternoon, a week before the Cypriot Orthodox Easter, with schools just breaking up for a holiday. The timing was good for Cyprus, with temperatures still below 30C.
Venue
We used the same venue as last year: Athalassa Park, Nicosia where a 2 km circular route was marked with flour arrows. Some ran while others walked, one was pushed round in a pram, one was carried. The participants were free to do as many laps as they wanted. One child did 4 rounds, two did three!
Participants
We had 50 registered participants with 37 children among them. The youngest girl was 5 months old, the youngest boy – 9 months! The children had been very excited about participating and passionate about finding sponsors and collecting the funds. They knew there was a lot of fun awaiting them too!
In total we raised €2676 (net) = approx. 2130 Pounds
Fun
After the run, hotdogs and water were provided to all runners. Children had an opportunity to have their faces (or legs, when faces were too sweaty!) painted and watched in awe at balloon sculpting, some lucky ones were given balloon dogs, hats and other figures. An obstacle course competition followed soon after – it proved a great fun. The winning team was rewarded with chocolates.
Rewards
Rewards followed. A goodies hamper was given to the highest money collector (€230). The youngest participants received medals.
Sponsors
All our expenses were fully covered by the sponsors. For this we are very grateful to 2 generous anonymous donors and:
