Run for the World 2008 - Almaty, Kazakhstan
Run
The race took place on the 31th of May 2008.
It was the first time we've done a run in Almaty and we were pleased to have 13 people take part although the potential for lots more people is there. We mainly had foreigners but some locals joined us and they really enjoyed it. It was a hot day (28 degrees C) and so we're thinking of running it earlier, in the year and in the day, next year. Since the water point was at the highest point of the run, the rest being downhill to the finish and due to the heat, it was a major highlight!
Participants
There were 13 runners participating. The oldest runner was 64 years, youngest runner - 10 years old.
Total raised: $760.
One comment by someone who participated: "Where is my son?" (Some of the young runners got lost on the route and we had to go out in the car and find them! 1 ended up running about 8km instead of the 5km!).
Results
Fastest male: 21:52 (it was a hilly course and even some sand running due to construction work going on). Fastest female: 28:39. Total time of runners/walkers: 10hr 23m. We consumed a total of 14 litres of water during and after the race.
